Sustainability is About Supporting People, Too.
At Boom, we believe in the power of collaboration and community. Our social initiatives are deeply rooted in working hand-in-hand with local communities, suppliers, and people fostering strong relationships and creating positive, lasting impacts. From supporting local businesses and artisans to engaging in meaningful cultural exchanges and environmental projects, we are committed to uplifting the communities around us. By prioritizing inclusive, sustainable practices, we strive to ensure that our presence not only enriches the festival experience but also contributes to the well-being and development of the region around us.
Boom Karuna Project
The Boom Karuna Project was born in 2014 with the intention of sharing a part of Boom’s revenues with the local Idanha-a-Nova community and beyond.
In the aftermath of Boom 2018, we distributed a total €40,000 to various projects and every year we donate 1% of our EBITDA to charity. Learn more about one of our most beloved projects on the Boom Karuna Project page.
Part of our mission entails funding social initiatives in the region — here are just some examples of how we do this:
Employment
- For the 2023 edition, the Boom Team comprised 59 different nationalities.
Total Boom Suppliers
- Total: 2632
- Local: 89%
- Regional: 18%
* We consider as "Local" suppliers based in Portugal. "Regional" are the ones from the Idanha-a-Nova and Castelo Branco regions.
Inclusive Ticketing
- A Guest Country is invited to Boom each edition. In 2023, 500 free tickets were made available to people from the following countries: Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Principe.
- We also develop a Friendly Price Ticket for countries with weaker economies.
Social Transparency
- We have posted a breakdown of the costs and profits of the products we serve to you in the bars.
- Social Menu: it is mandatory for food vendors to have a social menu.
Donations
We support the Castelo Branco association Associação Quatro Corações all year-round. In 2023, we donated 200kg of surplus vegetable production from our veggie garden and 500kg of surplus fruit from the festival. Some members of our team volunteer there regularly, to help out in the association's social kitchen.
