EARTH AND THE HUMAN MISSION: LOVE AND DEATH IN THE GAIANTHROPOCENE

Talk by Matthew Segall

While it is essential to overcome the kind of anthropocentrism that denies sentience and intrinsic value to other species and ecosystems, this talk makes the case that humanity must take responsibility for its uniquely powerful ecological role.

Our species is undergoing a planetary near death experience, forcing us to confront the threshold of our mortality both individually and collectively. Faced with the threshold of death, we are presented with the opportunity to overcome egocentrism by becoming beings of love, which is our true human calling.

The ecological emergency is a spiritual crisis, as the rest of the Gaian community will continue suffering until human beings wake up to their evolutionary role.
