When people ask us why we do Sacred Fire, many times we have replied that this area is a reflection of how we want to live: in a natural environment where people can feel safe and welcome. The ethos of the Sacred Fire goes beyond entertainment, where it is more than just about building a space for entertainment. Rather, it is about extending our feeling space to whoever wishes to be part of it.
Since we first began in 2006, we have experimented with the different ways of bringing about this project: from a small, semi-professional building team to a huge crew of volunteers that have come along with their children and their pets to help build the magic again and again.
For Boom 2012, we have decided to take the experiment one step further by getting YOU BOOMERS involved as much as we can. Apart from our unique combination of vibrant live music, healthy snacks, lush gardens, and of course, the sacred presence of our Grandfather Fire, we have decided to make Sacred Fire 2012 as interactive as possible.
Our interpretation of the Boom Festival theme, Alchemy, is that people need to start shaping their reality hands on – and so we wish to provide a space where this can continue to happen. Here are a few of the new features at the Sacred Fire:
The Academy of Improbable Things:
In this open-air classroom, you will be able to participate in daily workshops that cover a variety of subjects: from recycling to do-it-yourself building, from how to make natural dishwashing liquid to collecting wild herbs. Stay tuned for our unique line-up of workshops!
The Forest of Fine Arts:
Ever wanted to learn how to carve wood, paint outdoors or express yourself artistically using the natural elements? We will be holding workshops at a cosy corner of one of our beautiful gardens, so this will be your chance to have a go and learn about the various techniques for creating beautiful art!
Sacred Fire’s Open Stage:
Want to jam? The sacred Fire Open Stage is located right in the middle of our Chai Shop area. It is right here that you will have the chance to perform live with other musicians and entertain fellow Boomers with your talent for music and singing. Who knows, maybe next time you could be playing the main stage…
The Circle of Visions:
This little corner of our gardens is our personal version of a Speaker’s Corner. Here, people can leave their wishes for 2012 in words both written or spoken. Once a day, the place will host a talking circle with talking stick so that everyone gets to share their innermost visions with everybody else.
We’re looking forwards to seeing you at Boom 2012! Feel free to bring along your music, your craft and your vision and help build the most beautiful and interactive festival ever.
