The Liminal Village is Boom’s cultural hub. It’s where you acquire the tools to continue the change after Boom. The motto for 2012 is, “Here and Now.”
Back in 2010, we launched the first in a trilogy of aphorisms for Boom’s cultural area. The theme, “Frontiers” was chosen to invite thinkers and activists to discuss the parameters of ecology, love, art, evolution, mind, body, behaviour, time and space.
In 2012, Boom enters the second part of this trilogy, this time, taking a focus on the theme, “Here and Now.” The planet is undergoing one of its greatest challenges for survival on practically every level: environmental catastrophe, peak oil, population explosion, spiritual crisis, the collapse of the financial system, political turmoil, illegal wars, neo-colonialism, exploitation, psychological warfare, controlling propaganda, the breakdown of social systems, the list goes on…
Yet the signs of transformation are too bold and graphic to be hidden. The global scale of activist movements demonstrates the awakening of consciousness across the world. From the rippling effect of the Arab Spring to the massive level at which demonstrations are taking hold of the west in cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Barcelona, Brussels, Berlin, Lisbon and of course New York with the citizen occupation of Wall Street…
East to west, there is an acute awareness of the One-ness that exists and common goal that binds us all. A massive spiritual awakening is taking place and the need for a holistic global society capable of resolving the problems of our time is becoming increasingly recognised as necessary for our survival.
Here and Now is the moment for transformation. Here and Now, we have the power to slam the breaks and reverse the downward spiral on which the materialist system and the dominant culture are dragging the Earth and the billions living on it.
Radical, social change is inevitable – most evidently in the areas of climate change, economic systems and resource depletion. It is necessary to accomplish this transition here and now.
The Liminal Village at Boom 2012 presents a program of lectures, workshops, an art gallery as well as a platform for film linked to ethics, love, knowledge, science and humanistic culture.
